Health (and what I’m doing about it)

I have a very hard time with living a healthy lifestyle.

Mostly, I really, really like food.

But it’s also a bit (okay, a lot) of laziness … I’d rather sit around and read than work out. (Although I have noticed that I am able to read while on an elliptical!)

All last semester, I had a workout routine — going to the gym three to four times a week with my best friend and walking around the track for an hour or two. It was great; I started slimming down, and it helped me fight off the inevitable end-of-the-semester slip into depression.

But unfortunately, when the semester ended, so did my workouts — the Rec closed to have their floors re-done, and the heat, plus all of my homework, kept me cooped up indoors sitting on my butt.

I settled for doing some ab/leg workouts in the privacy of my apartment every night before bed, and I also had a stomach virus that I swear slimmed me down further… but those exercises left me unfulfilled.

Today, I got off my butt and went for a walk/run. I wish there had been more run in that equation, but it was damn hot and I wasn’t carrying water, so I settled for speed-walking. It felt pretty awesome to get up and be active again.

I’m also trying to work on my diet… I think it’s working? We’ll see. I can’t expect right away results.

I’ve got plans to go to the gym later this week (now that it’s open again!). I’ve got more healthy food than junk food in my fridge. I’m determined to get healthy (NOT LOSE WEIGHT, though that’s a bonus when it does happen). I don’t plan to — or want to — be perfect.
